FAQs

carefresh® rabbit & ferret litter with clean, white paper pellets is naturally lightweight and super absorbent. Rabbits and ferrets and even rats prefer to keep their home clean and tidy by using a defined litter box. Using an absorbent, odor controlling litter will keep their home clean and fresh longer and reduce the time spend cleaning up after them. Return the love by providing the very best care. Get some easy tips for litter training!

10

10 day odor control – Proven odor control formula suppresses overpowering ammonia odors for up to ten days.

2x

2X more absorbent – Keeps your small pet dry with litter that absorbs 200% its weight in liquid, so it lasts longer than shavings or wood pellets.

Dust Free

Dust free – Clean, white paper litter has no airborne dust and is ideal for pets with respiratory issues or sensitivities or homes with allergies.

Lightweight feather

Naturally lightweight & no inks, dyes or artificial fragrances – Made entirely from reclaimed, clean white paper fiber, our light pellets absorb all liquid making clean-up easy. Plus, it is biodegradable and compostable.

RABBITS

Place 1-3" of carefresh Rabbit & Ferret litter in a shallow litter box or tray near your pet's food and water bowls. Place a layer of hay on top of the litter or near. Because rabbits like to eat while using the litter box, this will encourage good litter box habits. Read More tips

FERRETS

Place 1" of carefresh Rabbit & Ferret litter in a small litter box designed specifically for ferrets. The litter box should be triangular-shaped, have low sides and be large enough to fit all four paws at once. This will encourage good litter habits, since ferrets like to go to the bathroom in corners.

RATS

Place 1" if carefresh Rabbit & Ferret litter (yes, it can be used for rats too!) in a small litter box or tray placed inside their habitat in every corner, especially in the spots where they usually do their business. It's important to use a different litter substrate than what is in the rest of their home so they recognize it as being different. If they go outside the box, scoop it up and place in the box so they learn that is where they should go.

CLEANING

Maintaining a clean litter box will keep your pet happy and healthy. Along with refreshing their litter weekly, remove waste and soiled pellets from their litter box daily and refill with fresh litter as needed.

DISPOSAL

carefresh litter is 100% biodegradable and compostable and should be disposed of in a responsible manner.

What types of fiber do you use to make your litter?

carefresh® litter is a sustainable product made from reclaimed clean, white paper fiber obtained from partnerships with tissue and paper manufacturers. We use 100% non-post-consumer good materials that may otherwise go to landfills.

Why is there a color difference?

Variations in product, color, texture and size can occur due to our commitment to using sustainable materials to protect the future of our planet.

What ingredient makes carefresh control odor? Is it safe?

Our goal is to provide the most wholesome environment possible for your pet. The exact formula is proprietary but the additives used in our products are approved in the use of treating drinking water. They have been tested by 3rd party labs using NIH (National Institutes of Health) testing protocol for animal safety.

Can I use the litter for my turtle, snake, other reptile or bird?

carefresh® is developed and manufactured specifically for certain small animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, rats, mice, chinchillas, hedgehogs and ferrets). We recommend checking with your local vet first before using it for other species. As with any changes to your pet's care, if you do use it be sure to observe your pet closely for changes in behavior. Potential risk of impaction exists if your pet ingests a significant amount of any type of bedding. If you suspect impaction, discontinue use immediately and seek veterinary care.

What makes the litter white? Is there bleach?

No. The materials we use for our whites and colored paper bedding products are derived from paper reclaimed from tissue mills and/or paper that is 'not white enough' for copy paper. The paper does not receive any bleaching steps by Healthy Pet. Our suppliers use ECF (elemental chlorine-free) processes for whitening.

Are any animals used in the testing of your products?

Our company adamantly chooses not to test our products on any animals. Products are evaluated by third party labs using NIH (National Institute of Health) testing protocol for animal safety without the use of live animals.

Are your bags recyclable?

Yes, but not in the usual consumer recycling bins. It is a number 4 LDPE bag and must be recycled at a proper bag recycling drop off (some grocery stores have them).

Is the litter compostable?

Yes, you can compost carefresh® litter. However, fecal matter in concentrations can take a long time to compost or pose health risks. Please check with composting experts on how to most safely compost pet litters.

What can I do if I have a problem with the bag of litter I purchased?

If you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, return it, along with your sales receipt to point of purchase for a full refund in accordance with retailer policies.

What happens if my small animal pet eats the litter?

It is not unusual for an animal to eat some of their litter out of curiosity or habit, regardless of the type of litter. As with any changes to your pet's care, you should observe your pet closely for changes in behavior. Potential risk of impaction exists if you pet ingests a significant amount of any type of bedding. If you suspect impaction, discontinue use immediately and seek veterinary care.
