Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Cat Litter Ever!!! <3 I purchased this "OKOCAT" litter two months decision ever made!!! I have two kitties. One 14 years and one 7 years. All the other cat litters I have purchased over the years don't even compare to "OKOCAT"!!! Clean up is a breeze. No left over residue inside the cat box itself. (The stuff you have to scrape off). This litter just slides out. It doesn't have that smell when the cats use the litter box. (I clean mine all the time). I can't believe how much it absorbs~~~500%. And it last a long time. The best part of it all is this cat litter is made of 100% reclaimed Natural Wood. <3

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Changed My Litter! I was sketpical at first, as I have always used the traditional clumping cat litter for my entire time of having cats over the years. My boyfriend suggested this because of the price and his experience with more natural litters. I finally caved and said yes with his promose that, if our kitty refused to use the litter box because of the change, he would have to run out and get her regular litter. At first, she was really iffy about it. She didn't use her box for at least 8 hours overnight. (She didn't potty anywhere else either.) But, the next morning, I awoke to her scratching in the box. I am highly impressed with the odor control and how it doesn't leave a big mess on the floor when she gets out after doing her "doody".

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's far better than I expected it to be! I received a coupon in the mail for a free box last year,....then my daughter got one, and gave it to me (She didn't want to change litter.). I had doubts, but it has worked out wonderfully. Being too lazy to do the slow 'transition' from one litter to a new one, I started right when I needed to change the box. She was cautious, but went right in, and I haven't had a problem. I also have noticed the odor control seems to be much better. Well worth a try, if you are curious. Also, much lighter, so far easier to lift the box!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Love it! Definetely is an odor minimized! Mr cat lik rd this and it smells so much better than any clay based litter. I don't have any issues with my cat liking it... I think he likes it too much because he tries to dig to China!. Great product and if used correctly, you use less than if you were using a clkay litter.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Less mess! I work at a shelter and we use pine litter in the cat boxes. Before working there I always used clay litter with my cats but now I realize how nice and easy it is to use wood! It is so much easier to clean when working with high volumes of cats and kittens at the shelter and less expensive too!

Is the cracked pine or the paper “Dust” free safe for rabbits? Clumping litters aren’t recommended for bunnies but I came across the Okocat wood clumping litter in stores. Tried it for my cat and love it so far. But I also have rabbits who are trained.

Asked by: KitKatRose95
Yes! Neither of those are clumping and would be safe to use for rabbits. But we highly recommend our carefresh brand of paper bedding that is specifically made for small animals including rabbits.

Can you flush any of the different brands down the toilet??

Asked by: Nancy
All of the ökocat™ litter can be flushed EXCEPT the Dust Free Paper Litter which can expand and cause plumbing issues when wet. However, local limitations should be considered and flushing is not recommended if on a septic system. As well, the state of California has a referendum against flushing cat litter for protection of the sea lion population, since cat feces can harm sea lions.

I have bought both the clumping wood and pine litter. The clumping wood is great. However the pine doesn't clump. Is that right? Some reviews say that it clumps, but not even the box says anything. Instead it falls apart. How do I clean It up?

Asked by: Vern
Correct. The cracked pine litter is a non-clumping litter. Scoop the solid waste each day and then gently shake the box so the dry pellets stay on top and the "sawdust" drops to the bottom. Keep the sawdust in the box to absorb moisture and odor. When the box is almost completely sawdust, you will need to change out the entire box with new litter. You could also use a lift and sift type of litter box for this.

Is your pine litter made from kiln-dried pine? I am concerned about the phenols in pine being harmful to my cats, and I have read that kiln drying reduces phenols. Thank you!

Asked by: Jacob
Yes, okocat Pine litter is made from pine that is kiln-dried which removes any harmful phenols.

Dust-free and pine versions are less expensive than the others. Affordability over the long-term is a factor in buying litter also. Is there a difference among the 5 litters in how much cats would likely use, or how often to change it?

Asked by: catmom
Yes, there is a difference between the types of litter as to how long they last. Please visit this page for a complete chart on how long each type and size will last depending on how many cats you have.

Which of the 4 product offering might be best for a cat that refuses to use litter to urinate? I've tried everything else include Dr. Ellsey's. Thanks.

Asked by: Dime
Try plain newspaper. I put a dew sheets on the bottom and then make "shredders". Shred more paper to put on top. My cats LOVE this. Usually only urinate in this. I get the renegade that will do number 2 in there but hardly EVER. So easy to take out paper and clean. Clean at least everyotherday.

Which of your products are truly flushable? I don't have a septic system, and have been flushing in fairly small quantities, and doing an extra flush when finished. Product recommendations?

Asked by: foxriver
All of the okocat WOOD litters are flushable. The Dust Free Paper one is NOT flushable. We recommend using the okocat litter that is best suited for you and your cat and that depends on several factors. Please read each product description carefully and decide which is best.

I realize that the used clumps can be flushed. But how do I change my "base" litter? I don't want to send it to a landfill in a plastic bag. My apartment complex does not allow composting, though. Thanks!

Asked by: Irene
Please use paper bags or biodegradable plastic bags such as BioBag.

cracked pine wood natural litter

Info Tabs

Product Info

ökocat Natural Pine litter is free from chemicals, dyes and other synthetics. Its soft, cracked pine pellets are easy on paws and have been lab-tested and proven to absorb more than 5X their weight in liquid. Natural wood fibers absorb odors, leaving a subtle, natural pine scent.

 • 7 Day Odor Control
 • Absorbs 500% its weight
 • Naturally Lightweight
 • Biodegradable
 • Non-clumping

Better for You, Your Cat and the Environment

ökocat provides a naturally healthier environment for you and your cat, and it’s better for the planet because we use only 100% sustainable and renewable wood fibers as found in nature. It starts with naturally fallen timber or unused lumber materials that would otherwise go to waste. The wood is then chipped and pelleted along with proprietary plant-based binders that improve the finished product.

Our fiber supply is sourced through suppliers that comply with policies set forth by the Forest Stewardship Council, Sustainable Forestry Initiative or the Forestry Preservation and Forestry Promotion Act, and consists of a variety of softwood trees including but not limited to spruce, pine and fir.

Our sustainable litters come from the earth, and can be returned to the earth and won’t sit in landfills for 100+ years like clay litters do. Plus, the packaging is compostable as well.

Biodegradable and Flushable

ökocat litters are 100% biodegradable. The litter degrades quickly and cleanly unlike clay litters that sit in landfills for years. The litter is also completely compostable, although we do not recommend putting used litter feces clumps in your compost bin.

ökocat litters are flushable in small quantities. We recommend that if you intend to flush your cat's waste, scoop carefully and avoid putting extra, loose litter into your toilet. You should also keep in mind the water or septic system you are on when making the decision to flush or not to flush.

California has a referendum in place for protection of the sea lion population, as cat feces can harm sea lions. Please be aware of any local restrictions you may be subject to.

Binds and Traps Odors

ökocat litter binds and traps liquids and odors longer without using chemical additives, scents, dyes or other harmful materials. The capillary system of natural wood fiber uniquely absorbs odors leaving a fresh natural pine scent.

Higher absorbency and higher yield means litter stays dry and lasts much longer than clay litters, or even other naturals.

 1. Pour ökocat litter into a clean litter box to the depth of 2-3”.
 2. Scoop waste daily and refill as needed to maintain the desired depth. Base litter lasts 4-6 weeks.
 3. Dispose of waste in an environmentally-friendly waste bag or flush*.

Transitioning Your Cat to a New Litter

 1. Fill the empty litter box with 2” of ökocat and pour only 1” of your existing litter on top. Let your cat mix the litters as they are used.
 2. When it’s time to clean the box entirely, continue to fill with more ökocat and less of the old litter until your cat has adjusted to the change.
 3. When your cat is used to the new litter dispose of your old litter appropriately, or donate it to a local shelter.

*ökocat is made from 100% biodegradable natural fiber, flushable and septic safe when flushed as recommended.

To responsibly FLUSH your biodegradable litter, please take care to follow the instructions below.

 1. Scoop waste clump and shake off excess litter
 2. DUMP one CLUMP in toilet at a time, then flush (no larger than the size of a baseball)
 3. Repeat for more clumps

DO NOT empty litter box into your toilet or flush more than one clump at a time.

*Designed to flush in well-maintained systems. Flush minimal extra litter and one doody at a time. The state of California discourages flushing feces in toilets.
